I bought this rod and reel combo because of its looks. When i got it it was way cool and works even better, Ive spent several days catching white perch with it and i love it. Im buying another one. Its not just for kids.

Picked this rod up as an inexpensive #4 rod in the boat. Went out and happened to use it all day the 4.9 gear ratio was great for the conditions of the day. Pulled in over a dozen fish all 12 inches plus with no problem. This includes a 2lb 19 inch bass and 2- 2lb Pickerel. And it looks cool on top of it all! Just to answer your question yes I have expensive name brand gear as well to compare this item to. As I said above, WORTH EVERY PENNY!!
