Heavy-duty ice-rod holder made of solid steel with an improved screw point. Works great in any ice conditions. Adjust
the rod angle by screwing the rod holder in at different angles, if you start pilot hole using a 3/16" drill bit with a
cordless drill this will help in getting the rod holder started. Takes up minimal space. Per two.
Horrible threads. Way to fine to bore into ice. I now use my Eskimo ice anchors to start the holes and this solved the problem of getting them started. All they'd need to do is put on courser threads and this would be an A+ rod holder.
I purchased these for a trip to Flaming Gorge. I've used ice shelter anchors with threads and they work great. I figured that these rod holders would perform well also. After using them, I had mixed feelings and most were negative.
Trying to screw the holders into the ice was a real pain. It took a lot more effort than it should of to get them started but once the threads finally grabbed, they worked as I thought they would. I did bend one a little applying pressure while trying to get it started so the metal is soft. Now it's even harder to try and screw in. They also rust, stainless steel would be better. Next time I go out with them, I'm taking my cordless drill and pre-drilling a small hole so the set up effort is less painful.
I hope Cabela's re-engineers this product to work like it should because it really is a good idea. I'd pay double for QUALITY holders of this type.
These work quite well. They hold the rod great and you can also lock the rod into them so no fish will be taking off with your rod. Only down side to these are the threads. It takes a little to get them started. Once in tho, they are good to go. Cabelas need to take some lessons on thread making for augers from Eskimo. Eskimo's pop-up auger anchors rock and are very easy to put in and they hold great.
