These inserts add tough, lightweight structure to your soft panniers to protect packed goods and make loading easier. They are virtually indestructible, and they are sized to fit most brands of soft panniers. Measures: 22"W x 11"D x 16"H.
I have used saddle panniers for years, both for convenience and flexibility -- especially when renting horses and being limited on animals and saddle choices. In the past, I used saddle panniers without the poly pacs and it's always been a challenge to have the load balanced and secured just right so there is no shifting.
This year we added the poly pacs to our saddle panniers and were absolutely amazed by the ease and success. We hunted for 7 days in the high country of WY. We packed in on day one. Packed out two elk on day 3 and day 7 and finally packed out our gear on day 8. We loaded the packs around 80lbs to 100 lbs each with some gear in the middle over the saddle. Not once, in four trips over a very rough and narrow trail did our loads shift.
Our only regret is not using the poly pac inserts the very first year hunting with horses in the high country. This product is a must for the DIY hunter/horseman.
Tip:
Don't be alarmed by the tight fit when fitting the poly pacs inside your panniers. It's definitely a two person job, but you want them tight.
They are cut a little tall for the pack they are sold with. So they have a very tight fit and the pack flap/lid tends to pull open. It seems they should be about 1/2 inch shorter for a better fit. Otherwise, they are just as depicted in the catalog.
You'll need to train your horse with them if it has never packed. They stick out real wide and the horse will have to get used to their shape and the noise they make when they brush against obstacles.
