I have been fishing on the Kenai River since 1996 and have used this hook for my flies, fishing for reds (Sockeye Salmon) for only the past five years. This hook is simply outstanding for hook-ups and I have never had a hook straighten up on me. I use 30# test leader and the leader-line breaks before the hook has a chance to straighten. Try this hook and it is priced in the affordable category. I use the #2 size for the Reds which is the largest size listed.

Good hooks only con would be the eyes are not tight to the shank. When tying flies the thread goes into the eye.

I purchased these to tie up clousers for freshwater fishing for drum and channel catfish both of which can run wards of 15-25 lbs where I fish . I wanted a strong hook so this one was my choice . Price was right and they do the job. Note tho I find on some Eagle Claw hooks, when pinching the barb down it will sometimes snap off rather than pinch flat. This is why 4 stars rather than 5.
