The Original Floating Rapala can be fished using a steady retrieve, stop-and-go retrieve or as a twitch bait. No matter how you fish this classic bait, it’s guaranteed to bring ’em running. This lure has proven itself in a variety of conditions over the years. Per each. Sizes:
I had great success with the #7 in the brown trout pattern for early season trout in WI. The silver is good too! I have since had some luck with the same lure on small bass up in shallow water. All of my success with these lures has come on a straight retrieve, no stop and go. changing speeds during a retrieve sometimes helps with bass. The main reason i didn't give it a 5 star rating is that it is mainly spring and early season lure.
Rapala floating lures, have been my favorite lures to troll with. I have caught northerns, smallies, steelheads, rainbows and perch with them. Best color to use varies with body of water and weather conditions.
I used to live on a lake in Minnesota and fished every day of the season, if not in my boat, then at least a few casts off the dock. Obviously I tried about every lure known to man back then and the 9 Silver Rapala (Original Floater) was always my go to lure. It always outfished everything else and was so easy to use. You could throw it out and just reel it in at about any speed that you felt like that day. You could throw it out and let it sit and then just twitch it, if that made you happy. Whatever you did, it caught fish. Bass, Panfish, Northern Pike, whatever was in the area seemed to enjoy hitting it. I moved from Minnesota and had not fished in many years until I decided to start up again recently. My old tackle box didn't have much left in it so I had to start with about all new tackle. My first lure purchase was the 9S floating Rapala.
