I got the Garmin 62s a few months ago and I love it. I've spent a lot of time researching and was not disappointed. I've uploaded a few different maps I found online for free. Along with my subscription to Birds Eye I strongly recommend this unit. Ive owned Garmins before and this is light years ahead, very accurate.
Can not use external power cord (12vdc), every time I plug in the mini USB connector the unit switches to the connect to computer!! I would like to use the 62s in the street mode with ext pwr but can't.. Also when the 62s is unplugged from the computer it turns off! What ByeTheWay said, I also have a problem with, good thing I have a 60cx or I would be in the dark on how to use the 62s. P.S. It squeaks when I turn it on! It should not squeak for what I paid for it!!!!!
I've been using a Garmin MAP60Cx for several years and found it to be a very good geocaching unit. Simple and functional. I was hoping that the 62s would be as easy to use with the addition of paperless caching.
The instructions for use are dismal. The Owner's Manual is included as software that you access by connecting the unit to your computer or downloading the manual from Garmin's website. There are virtually no instructions for paperless geocaching use. If you are new to geocaching and new to GPS units, you probably will never figure out how to use this unit for geocaching.
Perhaps some future firmware updates will address other issues I see and make this unit simpler to use.
