Perfect GPS
Date:
I have had the Legend HCx for three years and it has never let me down. I am so impressed with how versatile it is. I use it for bike riding, trails and of course my car. On my bike, I have a mount and when I ride I always know where I am. I also use the Track feature to log were I go and keep tabs with where I travel. Same thing with trails. In the car, this unit can also be an important survival tool. Especially in the winter. If I am stranded and need to wander from my car, I mark my location and use the track feature so I can get back to my car (I actually had to do this a couple of times and this unit was a life saver). As for navigation I find it is better than the Nuvi's. I discovered that I can make my own routes on the unit without the computer so that if I need to travel a certain way, just open up the route menu and plot away. The battery life is perfect (with my use, I get about 3-4 days out of my batteries between charges), the screen is readable in bright sunlight (don't even need the back light on during the day) . I like the design (you can use it with one hand-right or left so there are no issues here). It's water-proof and very rugged (I put this thing through a lot of rough play, not even a scratch on it). All in all, this is the best GPS I have ever had. Good work Garmin, keep it up.

Waste of Time and Money
Date:
Just got this for Christmas this year and have wasted a large amount of time getting this to work, many frustrations some of which are: Small screen that does not show proper details, the compass pointer does not function, the software is difficult to use and no instructions come with it, lots of trial and error with many hours lost. The device can locate nearby community attractions such as banks, parks, motels and so forth, however, it has me located in a town several hundred miles from where I live and despite many attempts to redirect where the device is, it still insists on using that other town as a reference point. My Base Camp just stopped working, the computer states it is outdated (just bought it less then a month ago). However, whenever I try to update the Base Camp the computer locks up and nothing I have tried will fix it and I have to do a force quit to make the computer work again- that was the last straw. I hope this can be returned to Cabellas as it is not be what I hoped it would be.

Worth the cost
Date:
I purchased the bundle specifically to be able to upload the topo maps into the GPS. The topo maps of are adequate quality for most applications, they're easy to upload and easy to use.
The GPS unit is also nice... Navigation through the menus can be difficult at first. I'm a person who learns by doing, and through repetition, it becomes easy to navigate through the menus with familiarity. There are a lot of functions on this GPS, probably more than I'll ever use, but the ones I do use work well. I like the "joy stick" on the front of the GPS for navigation, but it can be a little tricky to work if you're using the carrying case. Satellite acquisition is very quick with this model, and the GPS seems to remain pretty accurate under heavy cover.
I'm hunting a new area this fall, and the GPS will be in my pack as a valuable tool.
