This cable allows you to make a connection between your GPS and your PC. Create routes and waypoints on your PC and transfer them to your GPS. Download map detail from MapSource® CD-ROMs to compatible units. The cable has a standard 9-pin D connector. It does not provide wiring for external power.
It is very nice to be able to use my National Geographic TOPO software at my desktop and then just transfer that data, maps, routes, etc, right to my handheld when I'm done. It makes it much easier to name the places, plug in coordinates, etc. The only negative is it's not USB so I have to plug it into the back of the PC to a serial port.
This cable works great with my Maptech program to interlink the GPS and the program. Now I can download wavepoints on to my GPS, and upload locations and routes I took out in the field. This is just what I needed.
This product will not conect to a lap top computer without buying a USB port adapter. This is a major inconvienence when you are in the field and need to update a map on the unit or download information to a map porgram.
