Elk Hock Hair

Elk hair from the hock has always been a favorite with tiers for elk hair caddis patterns. The fine hair does not flare out and lays perfectly along the top of the hook for a realistic looking wing. It also dyes very well.

Elk hair caddis

I've been tying elk hair caddis with deer hair. Having had the chance to purchase some elk hair, I did. I found that the hair did not flair sufficient to form the head of the caddis. I'm going back to tying the elk hair with deer hair.

I liked using this product to tie flies. It did not slip off the hook once the cement dried, like other elk hair I have used. The color of the hair was great as it made the fly more realistic looking. I would recommend that you give it a try!
