Let me start off by saying that I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on gear and this is the first thing I have ever wrote a review on. This unit is absolutely awesome. Easy to install, great quality, with quiet and flawless operation. I store my AR 15 carbine with optics, mossberg 500, and Springfield 1911, with room to spare for another pistol or two. Hidden compartment in the base stores ammo and magazines. The top has recessed neoprene mat that acts as a caddy for flashlight, wallet, keys, watches, cell phone, or whatever else. Keys light up with blue LEDS. I could go on and on. There is a good video review of it on YouTube. The only thing that could possibly make this better is it could be a few inches taller to allow for another shelf inside. The designers of this should get an award. Just buy it and don't look back.

I first heard about the Sentry HDC from the Shot Show. The product just came out this summer and I was fortunate to discover that they were on sale at the Billings store. I took a long look at it before deciding buying one. The safe is well made (in the USA) with good joints and attention to detail. The access code can be easily reprogrammed and the touch pad buttons light up in blue making them visible in the dark. The adjustable shelves are made of plastic (I would have preferred metal) but are held tight by locking cams and appear solid. The barrel rollers are adjustable to allow for different systems (optics or iron sights). The shelves have a soft rubber pad surface on hard plastic and only time will tell how well they last. Unlike my other safe, the battery compartment is on the top allowing easy access for replacement of the four AA cells. There is also a high-security cylindrical key that can be used to unlock the unit in a backup situation. The inner cabinet liner feels like a felt material but is not fireproof. The door lip goes under the steel case and there is a heavy duty central bolt making it hard to pry open. Mounting hardware is provided along with some wall spacers and two slot-holes are pre-cut near a corner of the unit. Overall, it's a great home defense item that provides quick access of either pistol or rifle (or shotgun) and yet provides a measure of security against unauthorized users. There is even a top shelf to store a cell phone and flashlight.
