    • This is a Marlin Ballard Number 5 1/2 Montana rifle, with serial number 16819. This rifle is pictured in the "Ballard - The Great American Single Shot Rifle" book, by John T. Dutcher, on pages 166, 168 and 169. Page 167 of this book lists only 14 Montana rifles, with this rifle being one of the 14. The rifle is fitted with Marlin's Improved Graduated Peep Sight on the frame, and a Beach Combination front sight.
