First, there is a reason Cabelas has this on sale. I bought this grill mid July for full price and out of the box it was junk. Looks real cool and really sturdy other than that junk. I lit it for the first time and it flickered for about 15 seconds it blew a big flame and went out. Every time this was the case. I contacted the company and they sent a new regulator. Needless to say that didnt work so they sent a new burner assembly. That didnt work. They basically sent everything short of the body to get it to work and they ended up sending UPS to come get the grill. UPS picked it up and was delivered to the company with the promise that I would get reimbursed for the whole price. It is the end of August and no check yet. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. Listen to the review. They are all honest!
I purchased one of these grills in the fall of 2010 used once, it functioned but the wind kept blowing out the flame, then stored for the winter, just tried to use it for steaks and the REGULATOR would not function properly not enough gas and flame blowing out with 10-15 mph gusts, I contacted the manufacturer "Rankam" by e-mail and they called me and informed me that their warranty is 90 days and it is now my responsibility, they gave me a website for parts that does not have their name or grill listed, "NO PARTS" SO I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS GRILL!!!
Con's - If you are looking to B.B.Q. your food, don't make this your grill. Seems to have no real temperature setting. You could get the same result tossing it in the camp fire for free. This is the worst purchase I have made in years.
PROS -extremely portable (many design features cater to this feature) -solid latches -comes with carry bag -VERY impressive searing -can be adapted to larger tanks as a relatively inexpensive option -electronic ignition (one aa battery, not included) -performs well -looks like much more expensive units (it's a pretty cool looking grill) - yes, that matters. -pre-heats in less than 3 min. -it's an interesting, fun, new way to cook (there is a learning curve, but there is also a decent amount of info. on the internet about infrared cooking) -self cleaning actually works (both pro and con, see cons) -it's infrared!
CONS -threading for regulator could be more solid (works fine though); just a bit coarse. -lid must remain open during cooking ??? -must remain on HI setting for 5 min. after cooking so heating element doesn't clog.
Well worth the price. Infrared cooking at this price point is almost unimaginable. This made be very sceptical before purchasing, but it really is an actual entry level portable infrared unit.
It can't be beat if you are on a tight budget and have always wanted to try infrared cooking.
