My son requested these gloves for use when hunting. He is very pleased with them but we did have to do some restitching around the velcro to keep from losing it
I got these for my son just before he traveled to Europe. They gave him the opportunity to keep his hands warm and yet have the ability to use his camera as he is doing a semester study abroad.
I have a pair of Thinsulate gloves I bought years ago, and absolutely loved them. Just like these, they had the mitten flap you could velcro back when you needed the dexterity. But they did not have the slit in the thumbs like these do. After years of very satisfied use, and numerous times patching the corners of the mittens down w/ new thread (they came apart at the corners from repeated use)... I decided to pick up a new pair.
I finally got my new gloves a couple of weeks ago, and just used them for the first time this weekend... Wow, was I disappointed!!!
The new gloves are much thinner, but claims were that they were more efficient so should be just as warm. Not true. There was a significant draft on the outside of the hands (pinky-finger sides) that never really allowed to warm my hands when I had the mitten flipped back. The slit in the thumb was great (or rather, the intention was great). I bought a L size and my 4 fingers fit great, but the thumbs had about an extra inch or more in them (and I don't have freakishly small thumbs). My average size thumbs made it just to the slit in the gloves, so I had to constantly pull the thumb down to keep my thumb warm. And probably the worst part, after 1 day of use... scratch that, after 4-5 attach/detaches of the mitten to the velcro fold back (about 1-2 hours into my first day of use), the velcro tabs ripped off of both gloves.
Overall: - gloves are not near as warm as their predecessors (although when you've got the mitten closed they're so-so) - velcro is very cheap and becomes useless immediately into 1st use - odd shape (fingers/thumb vs hand size) - DON'T BUY
Looks like these are either getting returned or tossed in the trash, and I'll make another repair to my old pair.
