Take the guesswork out of maintaining your outboard engine. Monitor the RPM’s of your outboard motor with the Tachometer, and keep track of the actual running time of your engine with the Tach/Hour Meter from SenDEC®. Easy to install, the Tach and Tach/Hour Meter have a Flash Alert function to remind you to lube and change your engine oil. The lube alert occurs every 25 hours, while the change oil alert occurs every 100 hours. Actual maintenance intervals may vary by manufacturer, so you should read your owner’s manual to know the recommended service interval. Available:
The Tachometer shows your actual engine RPMs. The Tach works on any single cylinder, 2 or 4-stroke engine up to 9,000 RPMS, and it works on most twin-cylinder, non-marine applications and many twin cylinder marine applications.
The Tach/Hour Meter has an additional hour meter that records the actual running time of an engine. Non-erasable. The Hour meter is designed for all 2 and 4-stroke outboards. It’s triggered from the spark plug wire, so no battery is required.
I have two of the Tach/Hour meters. One on a Yamaha 25hp 2-stroke & one on a Nissan 20hp 4-stroke. Both work well although I had trouble getting the one on my 4-stroke outboard to work correctly. It read rpm's at 5-6 times the actual rpm's. I called SENDEC tech support. After being transferred and no one answering, I left a message. No one ever called me back. I finally discovered through trial and error that on my 4-stroke, the sensor wire has to be wrapped around both plug wires, and not just one like on my 2-stroke. It would be nice if they're not going to give detailed directions in the box, they at least answer their phone or return calls.
My only complaint is the sensing wire is too short to mount the unit where I can read it during operation. This makes the tach feature almost useless. As an hourmeter it has been great. It stays outdoors all year and has survived below zero temps and saltwater.
