XTR
Date:
The Yak-Trax XTR fit my KEEN SUMMIT boots very well. The sizing is accurate to the fit of a boot. The chains are spaced like they were made to fit my boots, no slipping.

Unfortunate Christmas Gift
Date:
I bought 2 pairs of these and gave one set to my son for Christmas. He told me the first time he went ice fishing that one of the chains broke and he had to try and hook it back together. He and I went fishing yesterday and I walked from the truck to the ice and two of the chains broke. After looking at them, I cant believe they didnt use welded like chains for this application I didnt have them on 5 minutes with two chains broken. Im returning them and discourage anyone from purchasing them. Cabelas merchandise quality is always much better than this.

Excellent Cleats for Ice
Date:
Unlike the previous reviewer, I have no problems with the fit of my YakTrax XTR Extreme cleats on my Merrell boots. I have size M cleats, which are recommended to fit on size 9 to 11 boots, and my boots are size 10. The chains on the cleats snug tightly into the treads of the boots. Although I didn't hike up any mountain trails, I did climb a partially frozen, muddy embankment without feeling any movement of the cleats on the boots. I didn't slip at all while ice fishing on black ice and frozen slush. And I was comfortable standing on the ice in the cleats for eight hours. I do, however, share the previous reviewer's concern about the durability of the unwelded split rings that are used to attach the chains to the other parts of the cleats. They seem like obvious potential points of failure, although the rings on mine appear to be unstressed after one all day use.
If you're going to stand on ice and have a decent pair of boots, I highly recommend the YakTrax XTR Extreme cleats. I wouldn't hit the ice without 'em.

Not the best for hunting.
Date:
I purchased these for hunting on steep slopes in the mountains after the first snows. They definitely help with traction on steep slippery slopes, but they won't stay on your boots properly. First, I tried small miniature bungie cords to get them to stay in the proper position and that helped some but didn't resolve the problem. Since the cleat plates are in two pieces, the back half keeps flipping over and onto the back of your boot, behind your heal. This happens most often when descending or if they catch on a log or a rock. I added some small pieces of chain to hold the front cleat plate to the back cleat plate, but the original chains aren't strong enough (the links aren't welded at the ends so they just pull apart). So now I am looking for some stronger chains to replace the original chains. If you are looking for something to improve your traction on clean level ground with ice or snow, I think they will work great. But don't expect them to handle steep slippery slopes with brush, logs and rocks. They just won't stay on your boots properly.
