What makes the sage spool good is because the Sage reel is excellent for the cost. The spool is prone to corrosion if the line is left on the spool. I use this spool in salt water and even if I rinse the reel and spool in fresh water and leave the line on the spool eventually it will corrode. I found that coating the spool with bees wax or paraffin prior to installing the line, will prevent corrosion for a while.

Never enough extra spools

I received a Sage 1850 reel as a gift. I really needed a few extra spools for different fishing situations, so not knowing what they cost, I checked Cabella's on line and even though this is a Sage reel and I figured I would be dropping a couple of hundred for two extra spools, I was completely wrong! They were very reasonable and top quality.
