1680
Date:
I bought the 1680 reel for my pike rod and love it! It is a bit on the heavier side but balences well with my 9wt. Excellent drag and line pick-up. Hard to beat for the price.

Excellent for the price
Date:
I purchased the 1680 fly reel for bass fishing with my 6wt rod, which is a little heavier than most and I prefer my rod to balance in the middle of the grip. The reel is what you would expect for a price range of twice as much. It's arbor is absolutely massive. The drag knob spins about a revolution and a half between extreme settings and if you want to, the drag on the higher end is immense (I broke a 10 pound tested line without going all the way to the top of the drag). On the lower end of the drag, it does go from no drag to what would be about middle range on a trout reel, but considering what this reel was made for, this is a nonfactor. The reel is fairly heavy so it is probably not recommendable if weight is an issue for you. Also, the spool would definately not hold an 8wt line and 200 yards of backing in a real fishing situation (you may be able to pack it all on if you're good at spooling, but when you're fishing, especially if you're taken into the backing, this would jam up with line. Again, with gel spun backing and for use with a 6 or 7wt line, it is a nonfactor. Retrieving line, the reel does click a little bit, but it is very smooth and independent of the drag.
