Great Reel Great Price!
Date:
I got my first Flyrise Reel the minute they came put. Attracted by the sharp looks and the reasonable price, I originally got the reel for lake fishing. When I lake fish I need an assortment of spools to accommodate the various lines that are needed on a lake. A quality reel and four spools normally breaks the bank but not the Flyrise. Best of all, the quality and performance is fantastic. My Flyrise is very durable and the incredibly sensitive drag system will match the quality of any more expensive reel on the market.

Great Value
Date:
I purchased a #2 the first of the year for my Orvis 6wt. I really like this real as it is smooth and doesn't hang up stripping line when it gets wet. I'm getting ready to purchase another for my Orvis 4wt. I feel the Flyrise is just as good as some more expensive reels.

Flyrise Models 2 and 4, GREAT fly reels!
Date:
Based on my previous experience with Ross and a prior purchase of the Flyrise #2 in the granite color for my wife's fly rod, I bought the black #2 and #4 Flyrise reels and am extremely happy with both of them. This said, I'm really impressed with the #4, having purchased it for my Sage Largemouth Bass rod. It's a beautiful match for this rod and line! The reel has a smooth drag - not a 'truck stopper', but strong enough for most any freshwater fish. It looks perfect on Largemouth rod and the lighter weight of the reel (compared to most 8 wt fly reels) balances right where it needs to. It holds the specialized Largemouth line (80 ft and equivalent to an 11 wt) and 100 yards of 20 lb backing - more than enough for any bass or pike! I love the tough, non-glare finish and the reel is inexpensive enough that I won't mind if it gets a scratch or two, which is exactly what happens when you bass fish, especially from a boat. Moving on to the #2, it balances my custom 9' five weight St Croix Imperial backup rod just perfectly and looks, performs and functions superbly. These reels are at home and look great on any fly rod, from bargain priced to top of the line. The icing on the cake is the spare spools won't break the bank! You can purchase a reel and 4-5 spare spools for what one 'top of the line' reel and a spare spool would cost and in my opinion, you'll never be 'undergunned' in comparison for any freshwater application! By the way, I just have to mention this - these are high quality reels forged from aircraft aluminum and then machine finished. They are not 'graphite' and definitely not 'cheap junk' as previously reviewed a couple of times. These wouldn't be my first choice for hardcore saltwater use, but few inexpensive reels would be. By the way, the few times I've used Ross's service, they have been awesome. For the price paid and the quality received, Ross has hit a home run with the Flyrise, and these reels deserve '6 stars' for value in my opinion - highly recommended!

Good Value
Date:
This is NOT a graphite framed reel as stated in other reviews. The fly rise is a cast aluminum frame with a premium Ross drag similar to the Rythum. For the price you can't go wrong. I have fished this reel in salt and freshwater applications without issue. Being that it is not a machined frame, it is a bit heavier than other Ross reels.
