The Konic™ is a pressure cast reel with machined components that brings top quality and performance to anglers at an incredible price. Equipped with the Waterworks zero-maintenance, fully machined, fully sealed conical drag – the same drag system that's used on Lamson reels costing $400 or more. Unlike other drag systems that use two flat surfaces for braking control, Lamson's conical drag utilizes two cone-shaped elements that are matched together for a precise fit. This system acts to completely seal the drag from the effects of moisture, salt and grit. When the drag is adjusted, spring tension draws the two elements together, creating variable rates of ultrasmooth braking. Because the mass of the drag elements is centralized, the reel is more responsive to lighter drag settings. The average radius of the contact surface is also much smaller than a disc-shaped drag, eliminating start-up torque. Frame and spool are pressure cast and then machine-finished.

Easily handles King Salmon!

I purchased this reel for King Salmon fishing in Michigan and can say that the drag has stood up to over 40 of the beasts in the last 3 years with no problems at all. I purchased this model over some of the higher end Lamsons based on the weight of this model (wanted to balance my 8 weight rod). No regrets, great workmanship, great product, great waranty, and the best drag money can buy!

Great reel, great drag, great price. Good enough to buy a spare spool so I could use it on different rods. I have much more expensive reels, and this one is just as good and as tough.

No spool release

I bought this reel anticipating higher quality. That it has.
After a few uses the spool will not release. I had plans to purchase addtional spools. I won`t be doing that now.The reel works great.just that the spool is stuck on the reel.
I won`t be purchasing a Lamson product again.

This is an excellent reel if you don't want to spend a ton of money! I also own a Lamson Guru and the Konic is just as good, just not as pretty!
My Konic is on a Sage 8wt and they match up pretty good....very pleased.
