The WLx series earns its elite position by exhibiting the same exacting machined tolerances, lightweight design and reliability Lamson has built a reputation on delivering. Clad in a two-toned, nonglare anodized finish, the 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum is fully CNC machined and matched with stainless steel components to blend superior light weight with rugged strength. Solid machined spool further increases overall strength-to-weight ratio. Aggressive large-arbor ratios promote maximum line pickup speed and minimum line coil memory. The proven-reliable sealed drag consists of stacked, smooth-braking Rulon® discs with a two-stage compression drag spring that accommodates a wide range of drag pressures. Ball-bearing drag knob with detents ensures positive, smooth drag selection. Large knurled drag knob for ease of adjustment in wet conditions. Easy tool-less conversion from left- to right-hand retrieve. 25-year limited warranty.

Light 'n tight

I have used Orvis Odyssey 3&4 reels for years in salt water . Mostly for northern species(striper,blues & Albies). I have also used them for warm water species.
I have also found the Odyssey to be more elusive the last couple years because it has not been made for several years.
This Cabelas WLx(made by Lamson) really impressed me. Less arm fatigue. greats pick up speed & even smooth drag.
I have tried several major Makers & none perform the way I like.
This reel has backbone to spare.
Im sure this will be my go to reel this season. I hope to have a good report after 5 seasons. Stay tuned!

Defective WLX

Was excited to finally receive my backordered WLX and extra spool. Reel looked good but there was no way I could push spool out of reel base. Reel was five star rated!! Doesn't appear that any quality control done on this one to see if it actually worked? Took extra person to get apart, and after trying extra spool and a drop of triflow I still am unable to get apart. I am a 200lb guy with strong grip. Watch out for a bad batch? 9560 in MT

outstanding reel!!!

I am a guide and I purchased a WLx 7.8 fly reel and Liked it so much I oredred a 2nd. and extra spools for both. I use them when guiding for steelhead. The drag system is smooth.....you won't find a better reel.
