I bought this knowing it was cheap but I didn't want to spend alot of money on a flyreel. All it does is hold the line right? This one doesn't even do that. What happens is the line falls out inbetween the spool and the body. So, I'll be casting and stripping line off and all of a sudden the line will stop. Look! it happened again. The line is pinched between the spool and body. Then 3 cast later I'll be reeling in a nice bluegill and LOOK! it happened again. Everytime this happens I look at the skies and scream "I know it was cheap but this is ridiculous" then I have to remove the spool and put the line back through the little gap. Hate it so much I don't want my kids using it. HMMM... Maybe I'll let the wife use it and she'll quit bugging me about taking her fishing. I finally bought a new reel, Cabelas' RLS reel it's a whole lot more money but I fish more and cuss less. I still cuss but not at the reel it's usually at those dang trees now. Morale of the story....... spend more and atleast get a cast aluminum reel.

Great Buy!
Date:
When last years trout season closed, I decided to retire my old fly reel. At first, I was going to puchase a cheap fly reel b ut then I decided to get this one instead. It turned out to be a good decision. This reel is strong and in good quality for its price. It holds up well to big pike and salmon.
This is a great buy, especially thos who don't want to spend alot on a fly reel.

Workhorse Bargain!

This reel (the 789) held up like a champ against Atlantic Salmon on the Miramichi, and Sockeye and Cohos in Alaska.
I took some ribbing from the 'Fly-In" types, but after a week, they were looking for the nearest Cabela's store!!
The drag is dependable and strong, and it's a great reel for this price.
