Morell Fly Box

Constructed entirely of high-tech, multi-density foams, these rugged, lightweight fly boxes not only float, they're also shatterproof. The boxes close and stay closed utilizing four tight-fitting, non-rusting magnets.
Available in standard, large and saltwater versions.

Not quite what I expected

Purchased the saltwater size.

Exterior 'finish' is bare foam and not fabric. Floats. Secure magnetic closures on the long side. Already a gap showing on the short sides - may not be an issue so long as it does not widen. Not waterproof.

Flexible foam construction so 'shatterproof' is a non issue - at normal temps anyway.

OK for typically sized saltwater clousers etc but imo you will struggle to store many bulkier flies in it. Insufficient internal clearance.

Would not rate the box as 'rugged'. The foam construction can be dropped onto hard surfaces and resists light pressure no problem. However the box can be easily crushed with hand or foot or heavier objects.

Reasonable value for the price but if 'rugged' is your requirement then you might wish to consider other options. Or put this box in a rugged container.

What's Not To Like

Great fly box. I've got all kinds and it's as good as the most expensive ones in my opinion. It's light, it floats, it's made well. I wonder how long the fabric cover on the foam will last over time. We'll see.
