This new Boles Float Rite Indicator uses a built-in "stick" to indicate if you've achieved a true dead
drift. If it's straight up, your fly is drifting dead. But if it's tilted, you need a mend. A ball swivel allows
for a true 90° drop from the indicator and prevents twisting and tangling. Per 2. Sizes:
Small,
Large.
Colors: Chartreuse, Red, Yellow.
Woops another bad one. I rarely give bad reviews for stuff I've bought from Cabelas, but I'll have to in this case.
Good concept, nice looking float, but my beef with this thing are the tying instructions: not good! The thing sits awkwardly on the water, kinks up the leader, and slides up and down.
Cabelas: take the time to figure out a set of tying instructions for those of us who are not savvy with the knots.
This is a good product for doing what it suppose to do: floats well and sensitive BUT it needs a few key improvements before it gets 5 stars.
One, like the previous reviewer, I found the poorly written instruction useless. Even the fly shop guy couldn't figure out how to use the rubber band that comes with it. They recommend handshake loop around the swivel which unfortunately puts permanent kink in the leader. They really need to rethink the fastening mechanism.
Two, the center flag is a great feature but it's very frail and bends/breaks easily. And when it breaks you just bought yourself the most expensive puff of yarn.
These improvements would make this product best in its class.
This is the only indicator I've used that absolutely shows whether the drift is "dead on" or not. Trying to teach dead drift to a newbie is difficult, but much easier with this indicator. As an outdoor writer, I test many new articles. It's always a pleasure to use something new that does what it's supposed to do.
