I got very consistent fletches using 4" Plastifletches with this jig. The instructions are simple.
I had 20 arrows to re-fletch, so being limited to gluing one vane at a time and waiting for the glue to cure 3 minutes took more than 3 hours . I did get a lot of reading done, though.
Since it's made of plastic, I did worry that using a knife to scrape off glue sags and drips might damage it. A little care prevented just that.
If I had really thought about the whole process, I'd have bought the Jo-Jan multi-fletching jig, which costs 3X as much as this Bohning jig, but it is really like getting six jigs for the price. That would really reduce the hang time and I could have finished my arrows in about 90 minutes or less.
For the money, the Bohning jig is hard to beat, and definitely works as well as any mono-vane fletching jig out there. It's also really convenient that you can get different inserts for clocking 2, 3, and 4 vane arrows (not that anybody really does that, except flu-flu shooters).
The only reason I wouldn't recommend this product is because for only a few dollars more, you can get an EZ fletcher that will save you a TON of time.
Admittedly, it's much easier to change your vane position in the mono-vane jigs than in an EZ fletcher, but personally, I'd rather save myself the time and press all 3 vanes at once. But if you're a casual shooter that only fletches a dozen arrows every few years, this is THE JIG for you. Shops obviously would need a higher volume jig, but for a guy that has the luxury of time, these jigs are great.
After reading all the reviews about this product, I figured ill give it a shot. After setting up the jig to my arrows and feathers, I found this jig to be very useful due to the lack of archery stores who really care about what they work on. I am very happy with this product. Just a helpful hint, your going to have to do a test run before you get serious with the glue.
