Open reliably on both thick- and thin-skinned game
The Phat Head SOB has a .017"-thick main blade and two .040", 3/4"W bleeder swing blades that open for a massive 1-1/2" cutting diameter. Guaranteed not to open in flight. Opens on thick or thin skin. Self-aligning swing blades have a single-bevel grind. Per 3.
Cutting diameter: 1-1/2".
Weight: 100 gr.
I can only give this broad head two stars, because of reliability issues with the swing out blade breaking off when shot through block targets designed for broad heads. This is not a knock on the Phathead itself, because I believe that the main head is an excellent broad head. In texting with one of the Steel Force reps (he claims to be), the problem is with the screws. I was supposed to see a set of new heads that had the problem fixed, but it's been over a month now and still no new heads. So, one star lost for customer service follow through, since the heads keep being shipped \u201ctomorrow.\u201d
That being said, the heads do shoot like my field points, and the design concept is brilliant. If this head was classified as a mechanical, I would give it five stars, because most mechanicals are not design to be shot multiple times at either 3-D or block targets. If you are the type of hunter that is willing to save some of your new heads just for hunting, then this is the broad head for you.

I've killed a mule deer buck and a black bear with this head. It is indestructible! The SOB cut three of the mule deer ribs in half before exiting the body cavity. The buck turned as I released, which created a severe quartering angle. Any other broadhead would have deflected. The deer dropped within sight.
If you think bears don't bleed much...guess again. This broadhead cut such a monumental hole in my black bear, he died within 40 yards, blood everywhere. My hunting buddy's bear, shot with an SOB, went 15 yards with solid blood for that entire yardage.
If you need further convincing, get on the Steel Force website and watch the video of them shooting these broadheads through both sides of a steel 55-gal drum. This demo destroys all other broadheads...but not the SOB. These broadheads resharpen easily. Unless you lose them...you will not destroy them!
last year i shot the g5 montec and was not satisfied! i had to adjust from my field point to be zeroed in. the montec were also extremely loud in flight. i did a little research and decided to give the phathead sob's a chance. ive been shooting them for over two weeks now and love them! they shoot the same as my field tips and i think the are even quieter then them. get them and give a shoot you wont be sorry!!
I have actually used STEELFORCE broadheads for the past eight years. I wondered if the new SOB would fly as well due to the addition of the expandable cutters. I didnt take long to find out. The first shot at forty yards was perfect in the heart and this head shoots perfect, just like the original Phathead. Keep up the great work Nic.
The Review states that the head is .017 thousands thick, it should read .075 thousand thick. I have shot these heads at all kinds of varmits and Big game and highly recommend the new SOB. If you live in a state that doesnt allow mechnical heads just use the original Phathead(.080), you wont be sorry. The ELk I shot last year went a total of 40 yards, dead on the hoof.
I have shot this Phathead directly into lava rock while shooting rock chucks and the head will stick into rock. AMAZING!!!!!!!!
