I have looked at a lot of zipper type tools and decided I really didn't want one on my knife.
When I saw the Timberline, I decided to try it out. I have not been disappointed. I used it for the first time on an October 2011 caribou hunt on Adak Island in Alaska. It worked great even with all the winter fur to cut through.
I purchased this knife based on the reviews and all I can say is that it did not work on my antelope and would not "unzip" it and kept getting caught in the fur. I then took out my Havolan knife (sold at Cabelas) that I originally bought to debone with, but instead I used it to also gut the animal and it was awesome. Maybe I just got a dull product or I was using it wrong, but I have used other gut hooks successfully before so I don't know. I will try it again on my next deer and update this review if I find that it was user error vs. the knife itself. I really do like the design so I hoping this was going to be a good review,
This knife works great, the zipper side cuts right though the skin and is great for field dressing. The front blade works well for making the cuts in the legs to hang a deer on gambrel. Worth buying.
