Excellent blade!
Date:
I've owned this "baby" since the early 1980's, fell in love with it then and have found indestructible. Nice weight and heft, can't go wrong with this classic!

The welcome re-issue of an old classic
Date:
The knife was everything I've come to expect from Gerber. Solid, Clean, Functional and just plain well built. The main edge needed a little sharpening but took an edge well and has held it ever since. The serrated edge was razor sharp right out of the box. My only complaints center around the sheath and the price. This knife has always been a bit pricey and still is, but the money is well spent. The lower button latch on the sheath can be but cut slightly just by putting the knife in and out of the sheath. The blade rubs against it as you remove or replace the knife. It really needs to be redesigned. The back of the sheath has a lot of loops to fasten it to whatever you may need to put it on. The sheath is well built except for the button latch/cut issue. The knife stays in it well and it's nice and quiet. Fits in the sheath tight but not too tight. The leg strap/lanyard is a bit small for the big boys. It was too short to close the quick release on it around my leg. It would work well for spec-ops folks who wear these on an arm or a pack.

An honorable battlefield tool
Date:
The Gerber Mark II is a battlefield blade, originally designed and sold by Gerber in the decade of the Vietnam War. Not a milspec item (too expensive for that), it was usually bought stateside by mom and dad to send in the care package from home to junior over in the rice paddies of Vietnam to ensure he made it home. The early ones, Mark I (very rare and highly collectible knives), had slanted blades and were made of metal that easily corroded. The Mark II was an improvement in materials and slightly bigger -- a real handy weapon.
The Gerber Mark II is NOT a hunting knife and NOT a wood whittling knife. It has a centerline point with machine sharp edges in both directions from the point. It's balanced, made of tough materials, generally unbreakable (though don't throw it; a stuck point can snap off), and has a ballistic cloth sheath -- the tool for the ultimate U.S. combat warrior. Get yours. UUhh-Rah.

Gerber Mark II

I love this knife! It is all it should be. It looks great, feels great, and I'm sure would perform well as a combat/tactical piece. The sheath is well made and functional as well. Knowing the lineage, and considering the reputation of the maker I feel good about owning a piece from a line that has a place in history.
