Cabela's Quickdraw Rod Holder with Rail Mount

Rig up your boat for trolling, drift fishing and still fishing with the addition of our QuickDraw Rod Holder with a new Rail Mount. The mounts secure to any 1-1/4" square or 7/8" round railing and permits the use of any Cabela's rod holder. The holder rotates 360° and adjusts vertically for precise placement of your lure or live-bait offering. The Quick Draw 360HT Rod Holder sports a unique pivoting design that actually helps set the hook by keeping tension on the fish. Since the inside tube pivots, it is twice as easy to remove the rod compared to conventional holders. Use the top cradle for casting and trolling rod/reel combos or the bottom slot for spinning combos. Since the innovative design positions rods at the optimum angle to the water, it performs perfectly with light spinning gear when drifting and still fishing as well as with heavier gear when trolling.

Malfunction

I love the Cabela's Quickdraw Rod holder, however, the plastic pins that connect the moveable release to the base, have come out on three of the four holders I purchased from cabelas. If Cabela's can and would inform me of the manufacture, I could get replacement pins and one moveable release holder to repair the holders. The moveable release fell into the water when retrieving a fish.
The holders were only two years old.

Excellent Purchase

I bought one of these rod holders because when we troll my wife says her arms get sore. Mounting was very easy and only took a couple of minutes to install. I have it installed on my bimini rail and it works excellent whether I have the bimini up or down. I believe that chief07 did not verify the contents of the package prior to buying as the mount is square but comes with 2 inserts that go around the rail making the circle. I did notice at the store that a few of them were missing the inserts so if you buy at the stores verify that the package does not appear to have been tampered with. Now that I think about it I might have to get one for myself "my arms get sore too":-)

rod holder with rail mount

Although listed for round or square rails, the mounting is square. Would not trust them on a round rail. I returned them and bought the same rod holder with a side mount and a rail adapter. They hold very well.

Set Screws are a bad design

I only rated this a 3 stars because of the set screw applications on this set up.

I like the QD rod holder itself but you will have to do some work to get the rod holders to stay in place. There are two small set screws under the bottom. Set screws do not hold on stainless steel rails very well.

You'll have to add tape or some other wrapping on the stainless to give the set screws something to "bite" into. Other than that, the rod holders work well.

I'd recommend them to a friend as long as the friend knew that modification would be needed.
