Great Instructional Video

This video was first time I ever purchased an instructional video and I found it well worth the money. It took me from zero spey rod experience to hooking stripers and blues in the salt and Atlantic Salmon in Canada my first season. I watched the whole video first, then zeroed in on the sections I wanted to really learn. Simon was actually casting in one of the saltwater spots I fish, so I couldn't ask for more specific instruction. And the single spey, double spey, snake roll, snap-T and underhand casting all came in handy on a demanding river in Canada. I glossed over the Skagit sections since I don't do that. This video and some hands on time on grass and preferably some water will get you started.

Overall impression of the dvds...
- for the money you get three long DVDs... long on instruction short on flashy frills... serious learning DVD
- main narrator is awesome and a very clear instructor
- they go through each cast step by step, tons of angles, awesome filming... again not flash but instructive
Why I bought it...
- Actually wanted to start learning spey casts for use with my single-hand rods but while the last dvd has a section this, it's taylors towards someone who knows spey casting already
- I want to get into a spey setup in the future, so it's not a total waste even if I can't use all of it now

The perfect introduction dvd for spey casting!

this video is very informative and breaks down each casting style thoroughly, showing you the idea behind each phase of the cast. it also gives examples of bad casts and what causes them.
the filming is done with a very high quality camera and the audio is clear and very easy to understand. also the line shows up very clearly allowing you to see how the line should travel and where it should be to comlpete your casts. the menu has each cast laid out so it is very easy to navigate the dvd's.
as a beginning spey caster this dvd has taught me the basics as well as the physics of each cast and has given me a wealth of information that have made my transition from my regular fly rod to my newly acquired spey rod enjoyable and worthwhile.
the only downfall with this video may be the frame rate of the camera used. the close up shots of the line is done at a high speed setting and on some tv's may cause the video to look jumpy, but once you get used to it is completely bareable.
overall if you were thinking of trying spey casting or need some more help to get your line out there then buy this dvd. it's 4 hours long and is a 3 disc set. you will get your moneys worth on this one, i already have!
