All the features of the original SPOT and more, in a unit that’s 30% smaller, 30% lighter and has faster GPS acquisition. An extra personal message button lets you send two preset messages to up to 10 contacts. SOS button sends your position every five minutes until canceled or batteries die. Button covers prevent accidental activation. Track feature sends your location to designated contacts every 10 minutes. Unit is waterproof up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes; rated to handle salt, fog and humidity; and operates in temperatures from -22°F to 140°F and at altitudes ranging from -328 ft. to 21,325 ft. Position accuracy to within 21 ft. Includes carry case and three AAA lithium batteries.

I am living proof that the SPOT Locator works. In September of 2010 I was in the Frank Church Wilderness when my horse fell on me and broke my pelvis. I was almost twenty miles from the trail head and from the closest help. I have traveled hundreds of miles in the back country on horse in Washington, Idaho and Canada and I never thought I would have to press the 911 button on my SPOT. I was in the most extreme pain of my life and my hunting partners were attempting to keep me out of shock and I was having trouble breathing when the chopper landed about 75 yards from my elk camp. They flew me to Boise for emergency surgery and I spent a week in the hospital before flying home to Washington. My SPOT saved my life and on top of that the airlift bill was $31000 and because of the SPOT plan it cost less than $13....On a side note imagine if you were hunting/snowmobiling with a buddy/wife/kid and they were injured. Would you want to leave them to go get help....Best product that Cabelas carries. I would not be here without it.

In the Summer of 2011 , two girls and I did a canoe/kayak trip 182 miles down the Kuskokwim River. To say the least it was an awesome trip! But of course three girls all alone doing something like that got everyone's feathers ruffled. We kept the Spot on for the entire week (even at night, and never had to change the batteries once!) so our families could track our progress and see where we were camping and for how long. I also programmed my email into the Spot because I wanted to see how it worked, and when I got home from the trip there were over 100 email notifications showing exactly where we were. It was great to know that our families were able to see us throughout our trip!

After reading the reviews on here I was skeptical but I picked one up any way for my back country hunting trips in central Idaho. I followed the instructions and every message I sent from the small clearing near my camp on my 5 day backpack camp went out and kept my wife at ease. I have used it since and have no issues other than it takes a while (15 min with an open view of the sky) to send the message but it tells you that in the instructions. It will be on all my solo hunting trips and family backpack trips from now on.

Great Piece of Mind

This time of year I hunt in the Superior National Forest in MN. Just got back last night. This was the first time hunting without other adults and with my 10yr old in backcountry conditions. I searched for other devices after reading the reviews here. After finding no better alternative, I bought the unit and paid for the service...

I will NOT take my son in the backcountry without it again. The setup took me about 2 hours when I got the unit home. Very easy to use. I tracked our entire trip and reported OK messages back to home at least twice a day. (Sure did make the wife feel better about being alone in the woods with our 10yr old.) We were out for four nights and have not changed the batteries yet. All of the spots that we hunted are on a map for future reference.

Overall GREAT product! Will travel with it whenever we go out! NO issues with set-up or operation.
