My father gave me this call. i dont usually use it for mallards i use it for river ducks. it has the raspy sound perfect for a canvas back and a ringneck makes it a great confidence call
For my ears I like the M-5 Mallardtone call sound a little better but the Mallardtone calls are a good products with qaulity sound. I don't have as many years of experience using the TR-78 and to be honest have not put as much time practicing with this call. I find a single reed easier to use for highball calling but like the double reed for closer birds. I think this call is slightly more difficult to get a consistent tone versus the M-5 but once again - if you're a double reed person this would be the call for you. Good for feed and chuckle calling. Easy to learn - especially if you're not good at calling close birds - this double reed can help you overcome mistakes.
