Built especially for use on smaller boats, these downriggers are both portable and highly durable.
Stainless steel and nylon construction assures you'll be using them trouble-free for many years to
come. Each comes complete with a disk brake, Scotty release, 100-ft. of braided stainless steel wire
and an anodized clamp mount for aluminum boats. Recommended for use with weights under 5 lbs.
(weight not included).
My friend bought a portable from Cabelas that he was raving about.
I thought it was a Scotty, so I ordered one too. I thought it would be a fairly heavy duty downrigger, but it's not very strong. Small handle for cranking, light duty cable, clamp bolt too small, so it crossthreaded as soon as I started to tighten it on the boat.. I called my friend to see why he didn't have these problems. Found out he didn't buy a Scotty. To make things worse the model he bought came with a free rod holder and downrigger rod. I'll do more research next time before I make a purchase.
wasn't happy I had to buy a rod holder for it .only used it one afternoon . got snagged and broke the cable(it's too light) Fixed it...got sngged up again and broke it again. poor quality as far as I am concerned
didn't even get it tightened on to the transom before the threads crossthreaded and jammed.that ruined the first day. The threaded bolt is obviously not heavy enough.I phoned Scotty and they blamed me.?? I fixeed it myself . next trip the handle which is too small, broke clean off, and I was only using a 3 lb. ball. I didn't even call Scotty, I fixed it in my shop and made a heavy duty handle myself. 3rd trip I sangged bottom after about 5 minutes and the whole arm broke leaving it uselss. I didn't fix it this time , I just threw it in the garbage where it belongs. I wouldn't even give the Scotty to my worst enemy. I think I'll build my own downrigger .
My brother bought two of these portable downriggers and we used it for the first time and it perfomed very well and it did it's thing, on the first day using it I was caught off guard with a 17" trout hitting the lure near the bottom of the lake, the trout snapped the line out of the clip and I thought I had snagged something at the bottom until the fish jumped out of the water. Highly recommended downrigger.
