Wasnt what I would have expect
Date:
I bought this DVD on a note that all the rest of the review on this product where 4 and 5 starts in which I can seem to think why they would. It is a great DVD but for the time in the DVD the most important part of the dog is his obedience and they did not cover that very well IMO. They talk about obedience being the number one thing and they barely covered how to control a dog to sit and barely covered a dog how to heel. watching this video they used dogs that had already been in training and new how to responed to the command i would have like to see them with a dog that has never been introduced to his style of training and watch the progression of the dog.
Also he never mentions what time frame or how old the dog should be at each chapter in his video. I think it would have been very helpful if he would have said this training should take place between 6-7 months but the only thing that i caught from him was after the adult teeth come in.
When labeled on the video "Low Force" and no e-collar i was excited i wanted to know how to control a dog with out a collar and I have to disagree that its a "Low Force" method and thats why I gave this rating a 2. I think that his method of punishment/correction is worse than using an E-Collar, the reason why I say this is in his corrections for his dog to sit or stay he picks the dog up completely in the air by his jawls/lips, you cant tell me that is "Low Force" sorry I know I would rather get shocked by a collar than get pick up off the ground by my lips.
All in All I think this DVD can create a great hunting dog but this wasnt the style of training i would use on my dog

Excellent training resource

Allthough this is geared more towards the duck dog, It sets a GREAT foundation for any dog. I really liked the style of training. Rewarding good behavior is the way to go. He doesn't use any force (e-collars, force fetch, etc...) Mike Stewart really teaches you how to train a dog using common sense. My Lab retriever is almost 4 months old and is doing just aboutverything in the DVD. Best of all, i know how to correct problems. I just bought the second of the series ""Training the Upland Gundog - The Wildrose Way DVD with Mike Stewart" and i can'twait to start that. Overall this is a keeper for me and I recommend it to everyone who aspires to have "The true gentleman's gundog"!

Great DVD
Date:
I have a now 7 month old female Choc Lab and i got this video when she was 8 weeks. It has been a great aid in the training i've done with her. The low-force methods are exactly what i was looking for, i did not want to use an e-collar and i did not want to force fetch. Right now Kas is mostly done with hold conditioning, running memories, multiple memories, and beginning hand signals. She will hold a thawed out duck for up to 15 minutes already without any chewing or chomping. She is extremely steady to the toss and flush, and is already gaining respect for other dogs on retrieves. Great video for the hunter who wants a great working dog and companion.
