Pro trainer Kenneth C. Roebuck covers all of the techniques necessary for training springers and working
cockers capable of hunting upland game and waterfowl. The major topics include: starting work; early
retrieves; introduction to gunfire; multiple retrieves; whistle commands; manners; use of launchers; bird
introduction; water work; and various hunting applications. 90 minutes. DVD.
Save your money on this one. The video quality isn't up to modern standards, and the instruction--such as it is--lacks organization and continuity. It will only frustrate the beginning spaniel trainer working alone without access to a training club or an experienced mentor. I was particularly troubled by the lack of emphasis on the care which must be taken in introducing puppies to gunfire and live birds.
The quality of the DVD is good but the content doesn't contain enough basic information. It doesn't seem geared for any particular level as the dogs the trainer uses are already partly trained. I want to know how to DO the training not so see it after the fact.
The video was not of the best picture quality. The trainer in the video does not do a very good job of explaining most procedures or the best way to get the outcome that you are looking for. I also purchased another dog training video which did a much better job of explaining the methods used. There may be some useful information but as a whole it was below average.
