No Longer Waterproof after Washing

Although the throw says it is machine wash/dry, after you wash the throw one time, whether it is machined dried or hung to dry, the vinyl backing flakes off in tiny spots. These spots are no longer waterproof and let any spills through. I purchased several for an old dog with incontinence, and the throws were no longer usable after I washed just one time. I ended up with a ruined couch.
