Enhanced with Specific Area Message Encoding, this weather-monitoring device enables you to program up to 20 counties for only the alerts you wish to receive. The user-selectable alarm system also lets you fine-tune the unit to add or omit alerts in your area. The radio picks up AM, FM and seven weather channels to give you up-to-date information on current news and impending weather patterns. Plus, it has a built-in alarm clock with full-date display. Runs on four AA batteries (not included).

Been wanting a weather radio for some time. Did my homework reading other reviews and decided to get this Midland.
Works great andtakes some time to underwstand the menu and set up, but is doable. I actually had too many alerts set in multiple counties, so I had many alerts going off. I just went in and made a few changes.
Gives me peace of mind when sleeping. Would recommend this radio.

Piece of mind for family in N. Georgia

We purchased the Midland S.A.M.E NOAA weather radio for our daughter, son in law and the grandkids that live in N. Georgia. After last years severe storms and tornado activity, we wanted to give them a way to have the most up to date weather info even if the power goes out. Our son-in-law said the radio is great and can be easily programmed for their area. Instant alert notification of severe weather warnings are a must and this radio provides just that. Gives us some piece of mind when they are having threatening weather.

This is my second Midland, finally decided to put one downstairs in the family room. Living in Alabama, I've had one for years in the bedroom to wake me up for weather events. With the recent storms, it became necessary to keep everyone warned, not just in the middle of the night. The Midlands are easy to program, very reliable and affordable. Worth every penny for the peace of mind. An early warning will save your life.

After reading all the comments about this weather radio, I took my time getting it set up and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. The first night we had it running, we had a big storm and I got tornado watch and severe storm warning notifications... Although we didn't have to go to the storm cellar, I trusted the battery backup if I had to take it with me. It worked perfectly, keeping us informed of the latest weather conditions. I'll be buying one just like it for my mom.
