Great with Mods

The included/installed connection pins are cheap and a couple fell out just bouncing around in the boat. I replaced mine with quick-release, captive pins and the pole works just fine now. With the addition of pins, there is no worry of the foot/paddle falling off.

I bought this to use with my 4.7m inflatable boat. The telescoping feature appealed to me because of the limited length of my boat. One intended use was for conventional poling through shallow areas over both hard and very soft surfaces. The pole did an OK job for this, although it wasn't long before the telescoping mechanism stopped working properly. It would stick before would extend it out to the next extension setting and then collapse back in when trying to push with it.
Another intended use was for launching from shore into substantial surfs on large lakes (eg. Lake Winnipeg) far enough to drop & start the outboard before getting blown back into shore. The pole was nowhere close to being strong enough for this use and I found it's breaking point after only a few such launches.

I bought this pole to use in my second duck boat on lakes in south GA/north FL. As soon as I opened the package and started playing with the pole, I noticed the pop-thru pins that hold the links together were very flimsy and not reliable. Opening morning i hunted a local lake that has lots of mud, lilly pads, and water plants making it impossible to operate an outboard outside of the cut trails. Once i extended the pole i made sure all the pins were secure to use the paddle in order to put out decs. while paddling around the whole bottom link fell out of the pole. Don't wast your money on this pole. I have shopped from cabelas for 15+ years and expect way more than this from them.. a thick piece of bamboo works way better and is a heck of a lot cheaper!
