I ordered two traps and at first was puzzled on how the heck they worked;make sure to un band the trap doors... I put turkey legs in the bait box and sank it off our local pier, I left it in the water for 4o mn and pulled it out with about 15 crabs and some star fish... I kept most of them.. This worked much better that the net trap...
I used my trap on the Oregon coast. They functioned as stated. I feel the doors are fairly small and the 3" square openings a bit excessive. I actually covered mine with chicken wire. I did most of my crabbing from a public fishing pier in New Port and found it to be cumbersome. I feel the trap would work great from a boat in deeper water.
My brother an I used a few of these traps one morning off the coast of Washington State and hauled in anywhere from 4 to 12 crabs per pot. The traps worked great! We used Turkey drumsticks in the cage. My kids had a ball and we had a great crab feed that night!
