Penn® Special Senator® Reel

This is one of the most powerful star drag reels in the world. Ideal for big-game fish, this reel has high-speed, precision-machined bronze-alloy main gears, and stainless steel ball bearings. The famous HT-100™ multidisc drag provides smoothness. Also features sealed drag assembly and reinforced sideplates, a graphite composite rod clamp and chrome-plated brass on exposed parts to shrug off corrosion.

I have owned and used one for 16 years among many others that have gone to the garbage pile since. Penn reels are indestructible, the best ever made, a lifetime purchase. Ironically and unfortunately, this is bad for business: if the product lasts and lasts fewer people will go to buy a new one. I am about to, but 16 years is a long cycle. This is just an idle reflection, I am in no way suggesting that Penn Reels lower their standard.

Works great and has not had any operational flaws on any of the 4 trips it has gone on in the month of August. This is one of several Senators that I own and they last for years on end with proper maintenance. I even have a couple of Senators that I inherited from my grandfather that are completely functional but they are retired and on display as memorabilia.

Have used these reels for many years. They seem to be pretty much unchanged over the time. It's no wonder - there are no changes needed. Very easy to disassemble, clean, re-do drag as may be necessary. I don't believe that you can find a better reel for the the price, or even twice as much. I use mine for snapper, grouper, shark, etc.

This reel is the best reel i have ever used. A couple of guys went out with me on my boat and we all used these reels except one. we were catching fish like crazy that day . the reels got hot but it worked like it wasn't hot. we caught a 600 lb. yellow-fin tuna that day , 247lb. blue marlin, 400 lb. thresher shark, and 3 other blue-fin tuna around 250 lbs.The reels withstood every single fight . the 600lb. yellow-fin fight lasted about 5 to 6 hours and the drag stayed the same and the bearings were fine after the fight . i would Highly recommend this reel to any fisherman who wants a reel that is reliable and will go as far as you make it . it will not just give up in the middle of the fight . if anything the fish will give up before that reel does and that is never.I will probably buy 10 more Penn special senators 114h 6/0 the day before my next tuna run out to the canyon so the day will not end with disappointment.
