Daiwa Sealine®-X SHA Conventional Reel

  • Free-floating spool
  • Three Corrosion-resistant ball bearings
  • Six-element sealed drag
  • Marine bronze and stainless steel gears
  • High-tensile aluminum spool
  • Two-position power handle with soft-touch grip
  • Centrifugal casting brakes
Not only are these reels perfect for jigging or trolling, the freedom of their Free-Floating Spool lets you fire a lure or live bait with ease when an inviting target pops into view. This free-floating spool design, supported by precision ball-bearings, separates the spool from the gear train on outcast for less friction, longer casts and faster lure drop. The smooth action comes via three CRBB corrosion-resistant ball bearings. The massive, six-element sealed drag is ultrasmooth and consistent for fight after fight with those denizens of the deep. Super-tough gears are machined from marine bronze and stainless steel to ensure years of service. The high-tensile aluminum spool is super-strong yet superlight in weight. Latch on to the big one with the two-position power handle with oversized soft-touch grip. Rod clamp included.

Good Reel, Poor Manual
Date:
I bought the Daiwa Sealine X 50HA. Very nice reel. Sooth operation, good clicker, lots of line capacity. It has a nice solid feel. The handle knob is large and comfortable. The reel clamp is solid and well designed. Excellent reel, especially at this price. The owner's manual is next to useless. It does tell you about features on the reel, but has extremely limited information about how to use them. It comes with two sets of centrifugal casting brake collars but almost no instructions on how to install them, which is stronger, or any other advice. If this is your first conventional reel you will be lost unless you've got an experienced friend to help you out. Wish Daiwa would charge a couple bucks more and give us a really decent owner's manual. That manual is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

Casting perfection
Date:
Best value in saltwater mid-duty casting category. I'm a big fan of the 40/50 size, as I don't find the extended gear box to get in the way, as it does for me on the 20 size. I prefer narrower reels, so the 40 is my favorite. Plenty of drag for any fish under 50 pounds, though many anglers successfully use these for much larger fish, even drag testers such as medium-sized yellowfin tuna. Recent revisions have made this a great reel, including a better handle and corrosion resistant bearings. In my opinion the 4.9:1 ratio is the most versatile, and suitable for 90+% of fishing scenarios - keep in mind that the 4.9 ratio in the 40/50 size brings in a nearly identical amount of line per handle turn as the fast 6.1 ratio in the 20/30 size due to the larger spool diameter of the 40/50. Price, casting performance, and durability combine to make the Sealine X a standout, especially in the 4.9:1.

Best long range casting Reel ever
Date:
We, that fish the Columbia River from the bank for Sturgeon need to be able to cast a distance of 600 feet (yes, six hundred) if we expect to hook up with a KEEPER. Closer to shore, you only get the little guys. This reel, the Daiwa sealine series does the job just as well as some of the $600 reels I have seen in action. The free spinning spool is about as smooth as can be expected. I highly recommend it.
