I think that the only good thing regarding this climbing stick is the price. I have other climbing products and this is by far the worst one I have purchased. In my opinion, it is not a quality product. The hooks and straps do not hold tightly around the tree. You pull them tight-- and the next time you climb it, the stick is moving under your weight. In addition, the connecting pins are really cheap. Consider buying the individual climbing sticks or individual ladders. They will cost you more but they are far more secure. Lastly, the individual sticks or ladders can be used on more than just straight trees.
I purchased these because they were cheap and had a load rating of 300 lb. Originally, I had intended them to go with my light-weight Gorilla stand which I transport between southeast PA and north-central PA and set up many times a season.
On the negative side, the set of sticks are heavy, difficult to transport, clank loudly in transit to stand, and difficult to set up except on the straightest of trees with roots that do not protrude much. The washers provided for attaching the v-shaped stabilizers are too small: If overtightened, the square stick section easily deforms, which led to buckling failure of the bottom stick when I was setting up my stand. The straps are also hard to tighten completely.
On the positive side, they are very inexpensive for a 20' stick set and footing is stable. I recommend these if you replace all the climbing-side stabilizer washers with 1" (or larger) diameter ones, tighten bolts just a little past snug, and use the stick semi-permanently for a season of hunting on a very straight tree having good bottom stick placement. Anything else, use strong aluminum sticks with non-interlocking sections and good attachment straps (which I'll be buying from Cabela's tomorrow!)
