Great Rod

I purchased this rod for king salmon fishing in Washington and Alaska. I use the 9' XH model for jigging, and this rod is a workhorse. Very sensitive, light, and strong. This rod has landed dozens of nice kings in the 15 to 30lb range over the last two years, and I have absolutely no complaints. Although the rod is rated for 20-65lb test line, the action is still fast enough for lines on the lower end of the scale. I use 20lb mono in Washington when jigging with dungeoness stingers, and the rod has plenty of give during battles with larger fish. Unless you have money to throw away, there is no need to spend more on high end salmon rods. Thank you Berkley for a quality affordable product.

Great all around salmon and steelhead rods

If you fish for river chinook and steelhead the heavy action rod will do it all. Match it with a good reel like the Abu Garcia 5501c3 and 15 - 20 lb mono or 60 lb braid and your set. Drift fishing , pulling plugs , trolling , it will cover it all. So many people buy a rod for this and that because they believe all the hype...you dont need all of those rods ! For the best and most popular techniques this rod will do it. With a good reel like the Abu Black Max it will even cast spinners down to a size #4 !

float fishing for fall chinook
tossing spinners or spoons #4 and above
It does it all !

Excellent Salmon Rod

I have this rod in the 8-6, XH version. It has been an incredible salmon rod. Its light and very strong. You can feel your bait ticking on the bottom of the river or when a fish rubs your line. Yet its strong enough to turn a powerful fish. I recently landed a bright 16 pound spring run King using it with no issues. Love this rod!

I have been very suprized with this series of rods. I have the 10'6" casting and a 9'6" spinning. Both have handled Salmon quite well. The spinning is also a nice Steelhead rod. My wife loves hers. I would have to say for the money it's better than I'd expect.
