I've used this reel once on a snapper trip in the gulf. Awesome trip with lots of big fish. I paired it with a Cabelas 7' boat rod. The combo worked well. Multiple people used my setup. The guides were even impressed the with the quality. Personally, I think the drag is not as smooth as it should be, hence 4 stars.

I recently purchased this reel with the intention of using it for grouper and snapper. With braided line and the drag set at about 25 lbs the the anti reverse bearing failed, and the drag was jerky. So, back to cabelas it goes. With all the hype for fin nor I think it is no better than the best okuma conventionals out there! If you are looking for a conventional reel with Instant anti reverse do yourself a favor, save your money and buy a Penn Torque 300. It will handle 32lbs of drag on the anti reverse bearing, and the drag stays smooth. I wouldnt recommend the fin nor conventionals to anyone.

An outstanding reel for strriped bass and bluefish. Nice smooth drag, and great retrieve ratio for deep live baits.

Another great Fin Nor Reel. Buolt tough to last.
