A Dependable Traveling Companion...
Date:
The Tidemaster three-piece rods are an excellent companion for the traveling angler, proving you don't have to give up the use of your own fine tackle when on a guided trip.
The rods come in a padded, Cordura nylon case with a handy carrying strap. The three rod sections fit snugly inside the case, which has a triangular cross section to keep them from rolling around in the back of a car or airline compartment. I slip the rod case between the handles of my tackle bag, which makes for an easy airline carry-on.
The Tidemaster series travel rods are very good looking and a joy to use, and there's a practical side to their beauty as well. The casting rods are wrapped entirely with durable, double-footed guides, which helps to guard against damage if inadvertently stepped on. The deep, high gloss finish on the dark green blank also tends to protect against scratches, preventing them from getting into and possibly weakening the rod blank itself - these 'small' details provide an added bit of insurance for the traveling fisherman, who often has to rely on a single rod.
I didn't note any significant loss of sensitivity or performance with the three-piece configuration. I used this rod on a recent trip to the Florida Keys for a wide variety of applications - casting surface lures over the grass beds in Florida Bay for speckled trout, short-range flipping into the mangroves for snook, snapper, and small tarpon, and bottom-fishing the rock piles and patch reefs for grouper with live and cut bait - and the rod performed well in all of these situations. In fact, one soon tends to forget that this is a three-piece rod - I had no problems with separation or alignment of the sections, even after using maximum force to bring a nice gag grouper out of the rocks.
All in all, this is a good, highly quality product which performs VERY well...
