Shakespeare® Dimension XT/Cabela's Tourney Trail® Casting Combo

An affordable low-profile combo built for strength and maneuverability. The reel's 4+1 bearing system is pleasurably smooth with a 6.3:1 gear ratio. A ported aluminum spool and graphite side plates add strength, not weight. Adjustable centrifugal cast control prevents backlash and a titanium line guide offers abrasion-free strength. Holds 100 yards of 12-lb. test line. Tourney Trail rods are proven fish-catchers with an IM7 graphite blanks, aluminum oxide guide inserts, premium cork handles and graphite reel seats.

Great Combo Better Price!
Date:
I snagged this combo in april for some spring break fishing and it is AWESOME! It is my first baitcaster but this model was so simple it made it easy to learn, it has all of the minimal features, had for about one month and I never backlash anymore, I am not a pro, but this combo makes me feel like one!

worth every penny

I bought this combo strictly for the rod and its awesome. On sale it was a no brainer. Wouldve given 5 stars but the reel is junk. Doesnt cast far at all and it started making a loud noise and casting even worse after about 15 minutes. I replaced the reel with a daiwa and its an awesome setup now. If your gonna buy this combo be prepared to get another reel.

recommend for a beginner...

this was my first bait caster, didn't take me long to get the hang of it. I've taken it out three times so far, and the rod/handle came unglued from the clamps that hold the caster. mainly used crank baits and spinners. haven't caught any keepers on it yet.

First Cabela rod
Date:
I bought the 7ft MH action instead of the Heavy. Thinking the action of the heavy would be too stiff. I am not sure there would be a noticeable difference if testing each rod action side by side. I purchased online, and did not have that luxury. The action is much stiffer than I had hoped for. But the rod is decently made. Rod raps and rap epoxy are good for a mass produced item. Guides seem to be a good quality with a good number of guides. When the rod is bent with the line strung through the guides, the line angle follows the rod bend fairly well and the rod while bent is void of a flat spot. These tendencies are found on well built, quality rods and never found on the cheapest of models. The Shakespeare real is just okay. Has the minimum of features, the drag will not allow you to lock it down but, is surprisingly smooth, that is more important than vise versa. What made this a good buy was I bought the combo around Christmas time when on a super sale. The rod purchased separately, was the same as the combo price. So, not going to thrash to much on a free reel.
