They are illegal in our state. I guess I should have looked that up before I made the purchase.

Does the job...but here's the catch
Date:
This is not a bad net but I want to make sure you understand the limitations. If you are challenged throwing the traditional cast nets, this is a great solution! The only limitation is the length of the net compared with your height.
Understand, you are not coiling up the net into one hand and casting it like the traditional method. The instructions to throw this net requires you to let it hang down it's full length while grasping the center ring. The motion is similar to throwing a Frisbee palm down (over the top) with the net draping down. When you throw the ring out, the net should use centrifugal force and open very nicely.
Now with that said, I purchased the 6' length and at 5'8" the net kind of drags when at a comfortable arm throw height . When you throw the net you may have to throw it some distance to get it to spin open. On the tutorial video, the individual is throwing this net approximately 10 - 15+ feet out in a pond with a nice high arc. Yes, it opens very nicely when done correctly. It's not hard to learn and easy with practice.
Here's the dilemma - If the species of interest is within close proximity to you (e.g. 2 - 5 feet), you may experience challenges to get it to spin and open. With their technique, you need to get the net to spin to open.
Overall, this product does deliver what it promises. I just wish some of these reviews provided more detail so we can make a better decision. Luckily, I purchased a traditional cast net as well.
Hope this helps...Good Luck this season!!!

The holes were too big in the net. The description led us to believe that minnows could be captured but we were unable to capture anything big enough.

could be good, but poor choice of hardware
Date:
Bought to use at the coast. I always wash my equipment with fresh water when I return home. The metal swivel is already rusting after 2 months. I would think it would be stainless steel.
