I own both the bow bag as well as the under seat model. Used it in the BWCA for fishing opener in May 2011. The weather was very nice and never rained during our 1 week trip. I was in the BWCA a couple of weeks ago (Sep 29-Oct 2) and it rained for the first couple of days. The bow bag was very wet inside and the seat bag probably picked up water from the bottom of the boat as it pulled in water through the seams. It has the appearance that it will keep the water out, but looks are deceiving in this case. I would stay away from purchasing these items.
I read all the reviews on the wedge thwart bag before my purchase, here's my 2 cents. I used this bag as a food snack pack, it hung in a tree for a week in daily rains and in a 60 mph wind and rain storm. the outside of the bag was wet, the inside had no standing water, the only moisture in the bag at the end of the week was condensation on the outside of the baggies of my snacks. Also it hold a lot.
I have taken this bag on several trips now. It is a handy place to store lightweight raingear or sunscreen. IT WILL LET IN WATER. And maybe more than is acceptable. Consider it 'splashproof'. If you put a camera or phone in there I would definitely put them in a ziploc bag. All in all, a decent product that I would recommend, but with the above caveat.
Just took out my canoe yesterday. Used the bow bag to store my cell phone and wallet. We got caught in a torrential downpour, and the bow bag worked perfectly! Rubber sealed zipper with a vinyl flap over it kept my stuff bone dry.
