Manual Pea Sheller

Growing Purple Hull Peas Again

I love my little pea sheller. I grew purple hull peas this summer and this device made shelling a snap. I timed myself when I had picked a good many peas. It took me about 30 mins to shell 6 cups of peas. That was fast fast. I have used my pea sheller for about 3 years and it is like new.
You need to know that this pea sheller does not work very well if the peas are too young. The peas need to be filled out in the shell but don't need to be dry, just ready to pick. Of course if you where shelling them by hand, the peas still need to be filled out in the shell to be able to shell them.
I attach it to my kitchen table and the peas go into a bowl and the shell I grab as they come out. This thing will shell as fast as you can turn the crank. I think I could shell more peas with this sheller than 10 people shelling by hand.
I would not grow purple hull peas if I didn't have this pea sheller, because I know I would not spend the time to shell them by hand.

Cheap piece of junk!

Actually this product was not cheap, but it is a piece of junk!
Plastic gears wore out after the second use. Needed to boil peas in pods for a minute in order for it to work. You can shell the peas just as fast by hand. Product was sent back to Cabela's and I'm expecting a full refund. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!
