TomTom is not helpful if you want to take another path. you just hear turn around when possible. the roads ahead are not shown for your wise choices in front of you. it is not possible to get a broad view of the road map to see where this road will take you. So you go Tom Toms way or turn around when possible...Other GPS are more helpfull.

This is a great GPS. Provides turn by turn voice navigation, has never missed a road or failed to identify my way. The only thing I don't like about this (or all other brands as well) is the suction cup mount. I cured that by putting a bit of velcro where I wanted it. I definetley recommend this.

The Via has some nice features, especially the voice turn-by-turn instructions, which are a lot less terse than comparable Garmin products. However, product support is abysmal. As of July 2011, there is no way to update the maps or firmware on the device. There is also no way to purchase additional maps for the Via, nor is there a way to make a local backup of waypoints (aka points of interest or POI). Actually, the company intends for there to eventually be a way to offer all those features through a TomTom-provided software application called MyTomTom, but it currently doesn't work, and the company can't or won't say if or when it will be fixed. MyTomTom replaces a formerly functional product called HOME. Unfortunately, HOME isn't available for most current TomTom products and MyTomTom doesn't work. The fact the company would continue to sell GPS devices and at the same time eliminate former update capability does not speak well for them, so I'm not inclined to trust their device either. So if you're currently shopping for a GPS and haven't yet made up your mind, save the hassle and look at Garmin products.
