I bought this knife about 3-4 years ago, after a co-worker, who carried the standard model, finally got tired of me borrowing his. It's the perfect size for everything, stays rediculously sharp, and the finish had held up well. I do prefer the design of the older leather sheath that came with the standard model, which did not use a snap, but the included leather sheath was attractive and well made. I hope that the folding version is available again soon, my intention was to buy four today, one for me and each of my sons!
I like a deer skinner with a guthook on it. S30V is some of the best steel yet. Sheath needed a couple of stitches, but is better than some & worse than others. Did not like the loop where you can tie a tether. It digs into your palm, using the blade or the gh when you bear down. I cut that off & ground it smooth. Painted the scales orange, where it wasn't checkered. Easier to find in the field when I lose it. Good knife, not too big.
WHEN I SAW THIS KNIFE I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT.NOT ONLY IS IT A BEAUTIFUL KNIFE,IT FEELS GOOD IN YOUR HAND AND IS RAZOR SHARP RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.I LIKED IT SO MUCH I BOUGHT THE SMALLER VERSION THE CAPER.USED BOTH KNIVES THIS WEEK-END ON A HOG THAT I HAD TRAPPED.BOTH KNIVES DID VERY WELL,EXCELLENT.
The sheath is the only part of this purchase that i'm a bit unhappy with. Its hard to explain, but the edge all the way around the sheath is uneven, and unsightly. That said, the main part of the purchase,is like a piece of art. From the coccobola grips to the finish on the blade, this knife is exceptional!!Speaking of the blade it is sharp enough to shave, and from what I can make of the info i've read about the steel will hold an edge for a long time. It's also very handy as a camp knife, perfect size.Overall,Gerber hit a homerun in my opinion!!
